About Shajrah Ma'rifat
Shajrah Ma'rifat is a spiritual initiative dedicated to spreading authentic Tasawwuf [Islamic spirituality] in a simple, clear, and practical way. It aims to help seekers understand, begin, and progress on the path of Sulook with proper guidance, structure, and direction.
The name Shajrah Ma'rifat (The Tree of Gnosis) represents a journey of spiritual growth, rooted in authentic teachings, developed through learning and practice, and leading toward the Ma'rifat and nearness of Allah.
Shajrah Ma'rifat was founded by Dr. Muhammad Amir Tariqi [D.B.A.], who, after observing the growing need for clarity in spirituality, consulted with Mian Huzoor Shaykh Tariq Ahmed Usmani [D.B.A.]. With his approval and benediction, Shajrah Ma'rifat was formally established and inaugurated on 24 July 2025, with the core purpose of seeking Raza-e-Ilahi.
Why Shajrah Ma'rifat Was Established
Shajrah Ma'rifat was established in response to a growing confusion regarding Tasawwuf among seekers. Many newcomers were unsure where to begin, how to start, or what steps to take on the path of Sulook. While some had been given Awrad o Wazaif, most did not have clarity about their Ma'moulat (daily routine) or how to maintain consistency in their practice.
At the same time, Tasawwuf and 'Amaliyat had become mixed to a great extent, leading to misunderstanding and distraction from the true purpose of spirituality. It was also observed that while tarbiyati sessions were being conducted, there were very few gatherings dedicated specifically to Dhikr, where Salikeen could come together for collective remembrance. This highlighted the need to revive and spread Dhikr through organized Dhikr halqah.
In response to these gaps, Shajrah Ma'rifat provides:
- A simple and authentic understanding of Tasawwuf
- Step-by-step guidance on the path of Sulook
- Clarity on Ma'moulat and daily spiritual discipline
- A clear distinction between Tasawwuf and 'Amaliyat
- Regular Dhikr Halqah for collective remembrance
Core Concept
Shajrah Ma'rifat follows the Naqshbandi Mujaddidi tradition, a path of Tasawwuf known for its balance, authenticity, and adherence to the teachings of Islam. This tradition was revived and systematized by Imam Rabbani Mujaddid Alf Thani, who emphasized that spirituality is not separate from the Deen but its inner dimension.
At its core, this path is built upon three essential elements:
- 'Ilm (Knowledge) – Correct understanding of the Deen
- 'Amal (Practice) – Acting upon that knowledge
- Akhlaq (Character) – Refining one’s inner and outer conduct
Approach & Methodology
Shajrah Ma'rifat emphasizes transformation through a practical and experience-based approach:
